Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs News Release

BOSSIER CITY, LA -- The Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs of the Central Hockey League have announced today that forward Chad Spurr has been signed for the 2005-2006 season. Spurr, 26, last played for the Mudbugs in the 2003-2004 campaign where he was an all-star and the team's second-leading scorer.

A native of Hamilton, Ontario, Spurr spent last season with the Pee Dee Pride of the ECHL and recorded 11 goals and 27 assists in 40 games. He now returns to the team which saw him produce 98 points in 100 games over two seasons in Bossier-Shreveport, including his career year of 2003-2004 where he notched 31 goals and 39 assists. That year, Spurr was nominated for the CHL's Most Valuable Player award and was selected to represent the Mudbugs in the 2004 Dodge CHL All-Star Game.

"It's great to have him back in Bossier-Shreveport and ready to go this year," said Mudbugs Head Coach Scott Muscutt. "Over the last three years he's proven that he is a premier forward at this level and he obviously makes our team much better. His signing gives us a new weapon which we didn't have last season and I'm thrilled that he's decided that Bossier-Shreveport is truly the place for him."

Spurr, a 6'0" 190-pound center, joined the Mudbugs in 2002-2003 and scored 13 goals and 15 assists despite suffering an early-season injury. He would enjoy his breakout season the following year by leading the Mudbugs in goals (31), plus-minus (+35), and shorthanded goals (4), and helped guide them to the 2004 President's Cup Finals with 13 points in 17 playoff games. Also in 2004, he became the 12th Mudbug in team history to record at least 70 points in a single season. Prior to his arrival in Bossier-Shreveport, Spurr spent time in Charlotte of the ECHL (2002), the University of Prince Edward Island (2001), and the Indianapolis Ice of the CHL (2001).

"Being away from Bossier-Shreveport made me realize how great the guys have it there," said Spurr. "I'm really excited to get back with a lot of the same guys and that's what I missed most last year. It's those type of quality guys that Scott always brings into the locker room and just getting the chance to be around them all again will be unbelievable."

Spurr joins fellow forwards Dan Wildfong and Chris Brassard, as well as defensemen Jason Basile and Craig Minard, and goaltender Ken Carroll as the first six players signed by the Mudbugs for the 2005-2006 season.

The ninth season of Mudbugs hockey will begin on October 21st at the CenturyTel Center. For more information on season ticket packages or corporate partnerships, please call 318-752-BUGS or visit www.mudbugshockey.com.
