Former All-Big 12 And Indoor League All-Star Performer Returns
February 19, 2010 - Indoor Football League (IFL)
Wichita Wild News Release
The Wichita Wild of the Indoor Football League (IFL) received some good news earlier this week as defensive lineman Justin Montgomery made it official that he was returning to the Wild for the 2010 season. Montgomery had flirted with the idea of retirement from indoor football. Many would call Montgomery the greatest defensive player to ever put on a Wild uniform.
The 2010 season will mark Montgomery's fifth as a professional. In 2009, Montgomery set a franchise record for most sacks in a season with five. He also led the team in tackles for loss with 9.5.
Justin played 11 games for the Wild in 2008 and was named to the United Indoor Football (UIF) All-Star team. Montgomery recorded 23.5 tackles and 1.5 sacks for the Wild. After leaving the Wild, Montgomery joined the Bloomington Extreme of the UIF. Montgomery played in their final two regular season games and both of their playoff games including a loss in the UIF Championship.
Montgomery first joined the Wild for the 2007 season. Prior to playing in Wichita, Montgomery played for the Rhein Fire of NFL Europe during the 2004 season and attended training camp with the St. Louis Rams in the summer of 2004.
The Smith Center, KS native played his college football at Kansas State. As a senior in 2003, Justin recorded 68 tackles and six sacks for the Big 12 Champions. For his efforts, Montgomery was named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 Team. In 2002, Justin played in all 13 games and compiled 26 tackles for the 11-2 Wildcats. Montgomery played in nine games as a sophomore and five games as a freshman.
The Wild open the 2010 season at home on Friday, February 26 at 7:05 PM. Single game tickets are currently on sale. Fans can purchase tickets by calling the Hartman Arena Box Office at 316-927-3999 or going online to www.stage1tickets.com. Tickets start at just $5. The 2009 Wild finished with a 10-7 record and were crowned the Indoor Football League's Central Division Champions.
