Former Aggie Receiver Signs with Wranglers
AUSTIN, TX, December 20, 2005-Chris Taylor, a wide receiver and kick return specialist with experience in the NFL, NFL Europe and CFL, has signed with the Austin Wranglers. Taylor, who played at Texas A&M University, will play as an offensive specialist or wide receiver/defensive back.
"We are excited to add Chris to our receiving core," says Head Coach Skip Foster. "He is a great speed receiver and will make us better from top to bottom."
Having played professionally at several levels, Taylor returns to his native Texas after attending the 2005 training camp with the Toronto Argonauts of the Canadian Football League. In 2004, he went to training camp with the Houston Texans, but was then allocated to the Amsterdam Admirals of NFL Europe.
"I'm fortunate to have the opportunity to play football again in Texas," says Taylor. "I have played a lot of football and it has been a long road, but I'm going to make the most of my chance to play here with the Wranglers."
Taylor (5-10, 190, Texas A&M) was drafted in the seventh round (218th overall) of the 2001 NFL Draft by the Pittsburgh Steelers, where he spent training camp. Taylor was signed to the practice squad of the Tennessee Titans (2001) and the New York Giants (2002). After signing with the Houston Texans in 2004, Taylor played in NFL Europe with the Amsterdam Admirals where he led the team with 42 catches for 573 yards and five touchdowns. While at Texas A&M from 1997 to 2000, he finished his college career with 83 catches for 1,316 yards, seven touchdowns, 581 punt return yards and totaled 2,316 all-purpose yards.
The Arena Football League, often recognized as one of the nation's most affordable and fan-friendly sports leagues, begins its 20th season in 2006. Season tickets for the Austin Wranglers third season are available by calling (512) 339-3950.
