Forest City Owls News Release

Thomasville, NC- Just in case there weren't enough, the Forest City Owls provided their own fireworks on July 4th in Thomasville. The Owls combined to hit three home runs, the most by the team in a single game this season, leading to a 6-2 win over the Hi-Toms. Stephen Tarkenton, Nate Chong and Nick McQuail all homered for Forest City.

Tarkenton got the Owls started with a solo shot, his first of the season, to give the Owls a 1-0 lead in the top of the 1st inning. Chong added to the total with a three-run shot in the 3rd inning making it 4-0. Chong's homer was his team-leading 4th of the season. McQuail blasted his second long ball of the season, a two-run shot in the 4th inning. All three homers came off Thomasville starter Chris McCue who ended up taking the loss.

On the other side, Dimitri Kourtis turned in his second straight quality start for the Owls. The Mercer product gave up just two runs on three hits over six innings. Kourtis walked only one, but did hit four batters. He got some defensive help in the 2nd inning. With runners on second and third with one out, Robbie McIntosh lined a pitch out to right field. Dykota Spiess made a sliding catch, then popped up and threw out Greg Harrison at the plate to end the inning.

Hunter Privette and Jason Driver each threw a perfect inning of relief to close out the game. Jake Padgett hit a batter and walked another, but still managed to retire the Hi-Toms in the 9th without surrendering a run.

The Owls have three more games this week to wrap up a stretch of 17 games in 16 days. Forest City plays host to Thomasville tomorrow night, a Thirsty Thursday game at McNair Field with discounts on all beverages.
