Force Steams Past St. Louis For Victory

ST. CHARLES, MO. - The Cleveland Force traveled to St. Charles, Missouri today to take on the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Central Division St. Louis Steamers at the Family Arena. The game marked the first of two games in two days on the road for Cleveland. The Force defeated the Steamers by a final score of 6-2.

With the win, the Force snapped a two game losing skid, won its first game versus the MISL Expansion teams and improved to 9-18 overall, 4-5 versus Central Division opponents, 1-2 in the season series and 4-9 on the road. With the loss, St. Louis snapped a three-game winning streak and fell to 10-16 overall and 4-6 versus Eastern Division opponents and 8-4 at home.

Cleveland opened the scoring (1-0) when Braeden Cloutier was cutting towards the goal and the ball bounced right to him and he found the back of the net off the assist from goalkeeper Jim Larkin at 5:33 of the first quarter.

The Force added to their lead and opened the second quarter scoring (2-0) when Adauto Neto lobbed the ball over St. Louis goalkeeper Bret Phillips for the goal off the lob pass from Joel Bailey at 1:12. The Steamers cut into the lead (2-1) when Sterling Wescott found the back of the off the cross from Jeff DiMaria at 9:45. Cleveland responded (3-1) when Cloutier scored his second goal of the game off the pass from Neto at 12:26. St. Louis steamers cut back into the lead (3-2) when Steve Butcher scored the power play and restart goal of the pass from Daryl Doran at 14:48.

The Force added to their lead and opened the second half-scoring (4-2) when Bailey scored the unassisted goal from the top of the arc at 2:36 of the third quarter. Cleveland kept the scoring attack going (5-2) when Hector Marinaro took the restart and his initial shot rebounded back to him and he found the back of the net at 12:45.

The Force sealed the game (6-2) when Larkin scored the goal on throw out against the Steamers sixth attacker at 13:32 of the fourth quarter. The goal marked the first goal in his career for Larkin.

Cleveland will next travel to Monterrey, Mexico to take on the MISL Western Division Monterrey Fury on Sunday, March 7 at the Monterrey Arena.
