October 26, 2004 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Cleveland Force News Release

CLEVELAND, OHIO- Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced that the team has signed goalkeeper Bayard Elfvin to a one-year plus an option year contract. Per Club policy terms of the deal were not disclosed.

"Bayard is the first young goalie to come along that has understood the indoor game quite well. His experience growing up and playing indoors in Northeast Ohio has served him well. If his game continues to improve he could have a long career indoors if he chooses to stay," stated Garofolo.

Elfvin, a 23-year old native of Cleveland Heights, Ohio, will make his Force and Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) debut this season. Bayard spent this past summer playing for the A-League Western Conference Portland Timbers. Elfvin appeared in four games including three starts and posted two shutouts. Bayard allowed just three goals for a goals-against-average of 0.843. He recorded 16 saves.

Elfvin, a graduate of Ashland University, was a four-year letter winner and a two-time All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) selection for the Eagles. Bayard ended his career the leader in Ashland history in shutouts (14) and goals-against-average (1.23). He had a career record of 31-12-2 and led the Eagles to the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II Midwest Regional Championship and to the National Quarterfinals during his junior season. In his final season at Ashland, Elfvin posted a record of 7-1-2 and allowed just eight goals, the fewest in school history. He also notched four shutouts while recording a goals-against-average of 0.86 and 40 saves.
