Force sign four, waive Cooper and Boyd

FLOWERY BRANCH, GA, December 8, 2004 – The Georgia Force announced today the addition of four rookie free agents, each with multiple years of NFL experience. The Force have signed offensive/defensive lineman Ernest Grant, wide receiver/defensive back Scottie Montgomery, wide receiver/linebacker Jimmy Robinson and offensive/defensive lineman Dave Volk. Terms of the contracts were not disclosed.

In other roster moves, the Force waived offensive specialist Markeith Cooper and wide receiver/linebacker LaVell Boyd.

"We recognize what Markeith has meant to this organization over the last three years and appreciate all that he has done," explained head coach Doug Plank. "We just feel at this time we would like to move in a different direction and wanted to give Markeith the chance to pursue other opportunities in the league."

GRANT (6-5, 312, Arkansas-Pine Bluff) is a three-year NFL veteran having played with Chicago in 2002 and going to training camp with the Bears in 2003. A former sixth round draft of the Miami in 2000, Grant played two seasons with the Dolphins and for his career appeared in 24 games recording 30 tackles and 0.5 sacks. He was a four-year letterman and two-year starter as a defensive tackle at Arkansas-Pine Bluff from 1996-99 earning All-Southwestern Athletic Conference honors as a junior. A native of Atlanta, Grant prepped at Forest Park High School, where he was a teammate of current Steelers wide receiver Hines Ward.

MONTGOMERY (6-1, 195, Duke) played three years in the NFL entering the league as a rookie free agent with the Carolina Panthers. He then headed to the Denver Broncos where he spent three seasons, 2000-2002, before going to the Oakland Raiders in 2003. During his NFL career, he registered 16 receptions for 160 yards and a touchdown adding 15 kickoff returns for 370 yards. Montgomery finished his career at Duke as the school's second-leading all-time receiver with 171 catches for 2,379 yards and 13 touchdowns. A standout two-way performer at wide receiver and defensive back at Burns High School in Cherryville, N.C., he helped the team capture the state 3A title.

ROBINSON (6-3, 210, Kentucky) joins the Force as a veteran of the NFL, CFL and NFL-Europe. In 2004, he played for the Calgary Stampeders and has attended training camp with the Montreal Alouettes the last two years. Robinson played overseas in NFL Europe for the Rhein Fire in 2002 leading his team to the World Bowl and was named to the All-World team. He was a member of the New Orleans Saints practice squad in 2001 and 2002. Robinson finished his career at the University of Kentucky with 70 receptions for 761 yard and four touchdowns.

VOLK (6-3, 300, Nebraska) has been a member of the Dallas Cowboys practice squad for two-years, 2002 and 2003, and attended training camp with the club this past summer. He entered the league as a rookie free agent with the Chicago Bears in 2002, where he was released following training camp. Volk was allocated to the Amsterdam Admirals in 2004 and earned ALL-NFL-Europe honors starting in all 10 games. The former All-Big 12 lineman and three-year starter at Nebraska helped the school win its 15th NCAA rushing title and second straight, averaging 314.7 rushing yards-per-game as a senior.
