Cleveland Force News Release
CLEVELAND, OHIO - Cleveland Force President and General Manager Paul Garofolo today announced that the team has reacquired the playing rights to forward Hector Marinaro from the Chicago Storm for cash considerations.
"We are pleased that that we have been able to reacquire Hector's playing rights. No matter what the future may hold for Hector, his rights should always reside in Cleveland. His records, contributions and amazing talent speak for themselves," stated Garofolo.
Marinaro, a member of the Cleveland franchise for 16 seasons, was selected by the expansion Chicago Storm in an expansion draft held by the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) on June 23. Hector was not protected in the expansion draft as only 11 players (10 field players and one goalie) were allowed to be protected by the Force. With the 16th and final selection in the draft, the Storm unexpectedly selected Marinaro and since that time Cleveland has been negotiating to retain his playing rights.
Hector is the all-time leading scorer in indoor soccer history with 2,787 points. Marinaro, who won the three League Championships, has been a 16-time All-Star, six-time league Most Valuable Player and 10-time team MVP. Marinaro ranks first all-time in league history in goals (1,223), two-point goals (665), one-point goals (459), playoff points (432) and playoff goals (188). He ranks second all-time in assists with 701 behind longtime Force forward Zoran Karic (850) and in playoff assists with 71.
