
Force Falls To Philadelphia In Home Opener

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- The Cleveland Force opened the 2004-05 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) season and was defeated by Eastern Division Philadelphia KiXX by a final score of 11-8 at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University.
With the loss, the Force fell to 0-1 overall, 0-1 versus Eastern Division opponents, 0-1 in the season series and 0-1 at home. With the win, Philadelphia improved to 1-0 on the season and 1-0 versus Eastern Division opponents.
The KiXX opened the scoring (0-1) when Les Lunsford found the back of the net off the cross from Ze Roberto at 4:49 of the first quarter. Cleveland tied the game (1-1) when Myles Stoddard scored the restart goal off the assist from John Ball at 5:28. The assist marked the 100th career assist for Ball. Philadelphia regained the lead (1-2) when Ptah Myers scored the goal off the pass from Shawn Boney at 10:57.
The KiXX added to their lead (1-3) when Goran Vasic found the back of the net off the rebound shot and assist from Don D'Ambra just 49 seconds into the second period. Philadelphia kept the scoring attack going (1-4) when Boney scored the goal off the cross from Pat Morris at 1:44.
The Force cut into the lead and opened the second half scoring (2-4) when Chris Handsor scored the goal off the assist from Gary DePalma at 1:34 of the third quarter. The KiXX responded (2-5) when Morris scored the unassisted goal at 2:46. Cleveland cut into the lead again (3-5) when Sipho Sibiya scored the restart goal off the second assist of the game for Ball at 3:32. The Force cut the lead to one goal (4-5) when Antonio Sutton found the back of the net off the cross from Vermilion native Chris Dore at 5:31. Philadelphia answered the score (4-6) when Roberto notched the unassisted goal at 5:44. Cleveland cut the lead to one again (5-6) when Justin Evans scored the unassisted goal at 7:57. The Force tied the game for the second time (6-6) when Dore found the back of the net off the second assist of the game for DePalma at 8:14. Cleveland took its first lead of the game (7-6) when Handsor scored his second goal of the game at 12:26. The KiXX tied the game (7-7) when Morris scored the unassisted goal that went off Force goalkeeper Jim Larkin's head at 14:20.
Cleveland regained the lead and opened the final period scoring (8-7) when Sibiya scored his second goal of the game off the assist from Larkin just 59 seconds into the fourth quarter. Philadelphia tied the game for the fourth time (8-8) when Edgar Bartolomeu found the back of the net off the assist from Morris at 3:17. The KiXX regained the lead (8-9) when D'Ambra scored the goal off the pass from Kevin Sloan at 4:01. Philadelphia added to its lead (8-10) when John Barry Nusum scored the power play goal off the assist from D'Ambra at 10:12. The KiXX scored the final goal (8-11) when Bartolomeu scored the empty net goal against the sixth attacker at 14:49.
Cleveland will next travel to Chicago, Illinois to face the MISL Central Division and expansion Chicago Storm on Wednesday, November 3 at the University of Illinois-Chicago Pavilion.
