Force Defeats Philly 8-6

CLEVELAND, OHIO -- The Cleveland Force played host to the defending Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) Champions Philadelphia KiXX and defeated the KiXX by a final score of 8-6 tonight at the Convocation Center at Cleveland State University. The game was the first game played on the new "Force Field" as the team had played its first two home games on the old Crunch floor.

With the win, Cleveland improved to 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the MISL Eastern Conference as well as tying the season series at 1-1 with Philadelphia. With the loss, the KiXX fell to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the MISL Eastern Conference.

The two teams played to a scoreless first quarter.

Philadelphia opened the game scoring when (0-2) when Kevin Sloan found the back of the net off the pass of Andrew Kopp at the 1:21 mark of the second quarter.

The Force tied the game (2-2) when Hector Marinaro scored the two-point power play goal on a penalty shot at the 3:43 mark of the third quarter. The goal for Marinaro extended his scoring streak to 49 straight games. Cleveland took its first lead of the game (4-2) when Giuliano Oliviero found the back of the net off the feed from Marinaro at 5:31. The Force continued it scoring streak (6-2) when Chris Stathopoulos hit the two-point goal that when off a Philadelphia player to the back of the net at 7:40 of the third quarter.

The KiXX responded (6-4) when Les Lunsford found the back of the net off the cross from Pat Morris at the 4:03 mark of the final quarter. Philadelphia tied the game (6-6) when Don D'Ambra scored the header off the pass of Joel Shanker at 5:16. Cleveland won the game (8-6) when Anthony Maher scored the game-winning goal off the assist from DJ Newsom at the 14:28 mark.

Cleveland will next travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania to face the Philadelphia KiXX in a MISL Eastern Conference game on Saturday, November 16th at the First Union Spectrum.
