Atlanta Silverbacks News Release

NEW YORK - Atlanta Silverbacks midfielder Junior Burgos eagerly stepped to a 51st-minute free kick Saturday night against the San Antonio Scorpions, and there wasn't much doubt what the attacker had in mind, despite lining up 30-plus yards away from the San Antonio goal. Burgos' end product on the dead ball shot - a perfectly-placed effort that curled neatly inside the near post of Scorpions goalkeeper Matt Cardone - was nominated by the NASL on Tuesday as a Play of the Week candidate from the sixth weekend of Fall Season competition.

Play of the Week voting will remain open - both on AtlantaSilverbacksFC.com and NASL.com - from Tuesday morning until 5 p.m. on Wednesday as Burgos competes for the weekly honor among four other NASL candidates. If Burgos secured Play of the Week, it would be the second consecutive win for the Silverbacks after forwards Pedro Mendes and Jaime Chavez linked up to win the award for a Week 5 goal.

Burgos' strike - the No. 2 play in NASL's Play of the Week video - took the lead for the Silverbacks in the second half of Saturday night's 3-3 against the defending champions. San Antonio later equalized to force the Silverbacks to share points, but the three goals matched Atlanta's best scoring performance of any 2015 NASL contest. Atlanta is now unbeaten in the past four NASL league games, in which they earned 10 points from a possible 12.

Burgos' second goal of the Fall Season - he also scored a penalty against Ottawa Fury FC - brings his careeer Atlanta total to eight. Burgos spent 2014 in Atlanta, scoring six goals and making a habit of highlight-reel shots from distance, including another free kick goal against the New York Cosmos nearly a year to the date before his goal Saturday night. Since rejoining the Club during the summer transfer window, Burgos has clicked instantly in attack with Jaime Chavez, and Pedro Mendes. So far in the Fall Season, the trio has been directly involved in 13 of the Club's 14 goals scored, including two goals and two assists from Burgos.

Burgos and the Silverbacks - currently second place in the NASL's Fall Season - hit the road this weekend for the Club's first-ever visit to Jacksonville Armada FC on Saturday night (7:30 p.m. ESPN3) before returning to Silverbacks Park for a two-game homestand against Indy Eleven (8/22) and FC Edmonton (8/29).
