Evansville BlueCats News Release
EVANSVILLE, IN: The Evansville BlueCats 2006 indoor football season will kick off this Saturday night at 7:05pm at Roberts Stadium. The long off-season is finally over and fans of all ages are ready to welcome back their BlueCats who will take on the Rock River Raptors. Fresh off their playoff appearance a year ago, the BlueCats will open the season at home against the Raptors for the second year in a row. Last season, the BlueCats boasted the best home winning percentage in the entire league, going 6-1 in games played at Roberts Stadium. The BlueCats will try to protect their home field on Saturday in a game that is sponsored by Old National Bank.
The Coach John Hart era of Evansville BlueCats football begins. Coach Hart said, "The coaches and I are really excited about getting the season underway. We like where we are as a team and we've had a good training camp. We want to give the fans a good show on Saturday."
In last season's home opener against the Raptors, the BlueCats won a memorable 53-51 indoor football classic over the Raptors (formerly the Tennessee Valley Raptors). Evansville scored the game-winning touchdown on an 11-yard pass on the game's final play to win 53-51 in the UIF's inaugural game.
Evansville BlueCats owner and president John Voliva said, "We're so excited about the start of the season and we have a big show planned for the fans. The players are ready to go, some of the fan favorites are back from last year and there's some really exciting new players also."
The BlueCats have exciting promotions planned all season long and will start the 2006 season with a bang.
The Harley Davidson motorcycles from ABATE of Indiana - Region 8 will be on hand and participate in the BlueCats pre-game ceremonies.
The fan-favorite New Hope Music Academy Boom Squad will be the feature halftime entertainment. Over 65 children make up this show stopping drumline.
The Gus Doerner Charity football toss will make its debut at halftime. Before the game and during the first half of all 2006 home games, fans can purchase footballs to be "tossed" at targets on the field during halftime for a chance to win prizes from Gus Doerner sports. All proceeds for the charity football toss will go to the nightly charity. Saturday's charity is the Fraternal Order of Police PAL Camp.
Kickoff on Saturday will be at 7:05pm. The gates at Roberts Stadium will open at 6pm. The BlueCats invite fans to show up early and tailgate with your fellow fans. The first 2000 fans will receive the new BlueCats 2006 magnet schedule and the first 1000 fans will receive a free Evansville BlueCats Spirit Sign.
