Amarillo Venom News Release

The Amarillo Dusters today announced the signing of Offensive Coordinator Rickey Foggie. Coach Foggie joins the Dusters after playing ten seasons in the Canadian Football League and nine seasons in the Arena Football League, retiring after the 2004 season with the Carolina Cobras.

"As an organization, we've moved up to Af2, and we're taking our team to the next level," said Dusters Director of Football Operations Warren McCarty. "Coach Foggie brings so much experience and understanding of the arena game. I can't express how excited we are to have a person of his caliber join our coaching staff. I know our quarterbacks will be fired up to learn from one of the all-time best AFL and CFL quarterbacks. Coach Foggie played under some of the best minds in arena football and in the CFL. He's been a sponge."

Coach Foggie threw for 18,636 yards, 332 touchdowns with 82 interceptions, while running for 19 touchdowns as well over his AFL career. He also threw for 14,009 yards and 91 touchdowns while playing in the CFL, appearing in 3 CFL Grey Cup Championships. He also rushed for 2,536 yards. While in college, Foggie played 4 seasons for Lou Holtz at Minnesota. He currently ranks 2nd all-time in total yardage for the Gophers.

"When I interviewed Coach Foggie, I knew what he'd mean to this organization and this community," Coach Don Carthel said. "He knows the game. He was extremely successful on the field. Who better to teach our guys the nuances of arena football than somebody who lived it? I think he'll fit right in with our vision of success in Amarillo."

"I'm excited about this opportunity to start my career in coaching," said Foggie. "I've always known that I wanted to coach. I am excited about being able to help young players, and mold them into successful professional players. I feel like I've got a lot of knowledge to share, and I've learned from some of the best. I'm thankful that the Dusters and Coach Carthel were gracious enough to give me a chance. This is their first season in Af2, and it will be my first season teaching the arena game. It's a good fit."

Coach Foggie played under some of the best minds in arena football, including former New Jersey Red Dogs Head Coach and current New York Giants Offensive Coordinator John Hufnagel, current Tampa Bay Storm assistant Dave Ewart, and Columbus Destroyers assistant Ron Selesky.

"I think Rickey Foggie will have tremendous success with the Dusters," said Selesky. "He was a tremendous help to us as the quarterback in Carolina last season. He was a coach on the field and in the lockerroom. He's got a sharp mind for the game, and he loves to game plan and attack weaknesses in defenses."

"The ‘Fog Dog' was a warrior for me," Ewart said. "I was the Head Coach for the Florida Bobcats, and he had a lot of pressure put on his shoulders as our starter. He responded with the best season in team history. He'd be a perfect guy to teach Af2 players the game. I'm so glad for him."

The Dusters begin training camp on March 17th, and open the season at "The Cellar" on Friday, April 1st against Tulsa. Contact the Dusters offices at (806) 322-7277 or log on to www.dustersfootball.com for more details.
