St. John's Fog Devils News Release
St. John's (December 27, 2007) - The St. John's Fog Devils have made their third significant trade of the December Trade Period, further altering a roster that looks grossly different than it did two weeks ago. The Foggies landed veteran centre Phil Mangan (02-11-87) from the Moncton Wildcats in exchange for a pair of QMJHL Midget Entry Draft picks. The deal breaks down as follows:
To MON:
2008 2nd round selection in QMJHL Midget Entry Draft (originally property of Victoriaville Tigres)
2008 4th round selection in QMJHL Midget Entry Draft (originally property of Rimouski Oceanic)
To SNL:
Phil Mangan
2008 7th round selection in QMJHL Midget Entry Draft
Mangan had 8 goals and 34 points in 38 games for Moncton in 2007-08, and Fog Devils head coach and general manager Real Paiement feels he has a lot to offer his new club:
"I'm very happy to add a player like Phil to our team for the playoff drive. I believe that by bringing in a player and leader of his quality has greatly improved the Fog Devils. His poise on the powerplay and his playmaking abilities make him a constant offensive threat, but the thing that really made this deal for us are his leadership ability and his character."
When asked about the revamped Fog Devils roster, Paiement was openly pleased with his moves to date:
"In the past two weeks we've acquired the services of Mathieu Labrie, Samuel Grenache, Henrick Lavoie, and Phil Mangan. These players have had important roles on and off the ice with their respective teams and we're looking forward to having them continue with the same passion and determination that they've shown to date. There is no doubt in my mind that we are a better team today than we were before these players were acquired, but our challenge now is to prove it game in and game out from here on out."
The trade period concludes on January 8, 2008.
