LAKELAND, FL: The Florida Fire Frogs recorded their third shutout victory of the season on Tuesday night at Publix Field at Joker Marchant Stadium, blanking the Lakeland Flying Tigers by a score of 4-0.
RHP Nolan Kingham (2-1) surrendered just five hits and a walk with two punchouts over six shutout innings. He has now thrown 15 straight scoreless frames against the Flying Tigers and hasn't allowed a run in his last 15.2 stanzas.
Greyson Jenista opened the scoring for the Fire Frogs in the third, nailing a single to right that plated Riley Unroe to make it 1-0.
Florida put three straight men on against RHP Tom de Blok in the fourth. Unroe delivered with a single to score Garrison Schwartz; 2-0 Fire Frogs.
Blok (0-2) accepted his second straight loss to Florida, lasting just 3 and 2/3's innings and giving up two runs.
Speaking of Schwartz, he went yard for the first time this season in the sixth off RHP Carson Lance, bringing in Riley Delgado to increase the margin to 4-0. Schwartz added two singles to notch the ninth three-hit performance of the season for the Fire Frogs.
LHP Blaine Hardy, a rehabbing Detroit Tiger, turned in a quick 1-2-3 frame of the Fire Frogs in the seventh.
Florida's bullpen nicely backed up Kingham's strong performance, combining to yield just three hits with three strikeouts over the final three innings. RHP Daysbel Hernandez threw in the seventh and eighth. RHP Brandon White got the final three outs.
NOTES: Riley Unroe reached base four times and singled once, extending his hitting streak to 7 and his on-base streak to a team-best 16 games. Riley Delgado got on twice to bump his on-base streak to 10.
NEXT UP: The Fire Frogs hope to split the series with a win on Wednesday night in Lakeland. LHP Philip Pfeifer (0-0, 0.00) makes his second start of the year against Lakeland's RHP Jesus Rodriguez (0-3, 5.40) at 6:30 p.m.
