Central Illinois Flying Aces News Release
BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The Central Illinois Flying Aces came from behind to defeat the U.S. National Under-18 Team, 2 to 1.
Both teams were scoreless through the first period with Central Illinois outshooting Team USA, 12 to 7.
At 5:24 in the second, on the power play, Jack Hughes was set-up on the half-wall and passed to Judd Caulfield below the goal line. Caulfield passed the puck to Michael Gildon in the slot who one-timed the puck into the back of the net.
Central Illinois tied the game on the man advantage at 3:51 in the third. Lynden Breen (Grand Bay-Westfield, NB) settled the puck at the right half-wall and passed to Ryan Siedem (Madison, NJ) at the point. Siedem passed to Colby Enns (Minot, ND) who was stationed above the left circle. Enns used a slapshot to beat the USA goaltender under his right pad.
Enns stopped a USA breakaway in the third with less than three minutes left in the game. Siedem forced a turnover, and Trevor Janicke (Maple Grove, Minn.) picked up the loose puck and the Flying Aces entered the USA zone on a four-on-two. Janicke dropped the puck back to Breen who fired the puck past the netminder to break the tie and give the Aces a 2-1 lead.
Ryan Snowden (Kennett Square, Penn.) stopped twenty-nine of thirty shots faced in the victory.
