
Phantoms Capitalize on Opportunities

YOUNGSTOWN, OH- The Youngstown Phantoms (7-8-0-2) picked up their seventh win of the season and their first win over the Madison Capitols on Friday night at the Covelli Centre.
The first period saw minimal action for the first ten minutes of the game until Reid Babich had a high sticking penalty at 10:56, giving the Phantoms the first powerplay of the game. Twenty-one seconds later, Matthew Gould had a slashing penalty to give a Phantoms a five-on-three powerplay only to have Chase Brand score a short-handed goal to give Madison a one to nothing lead. Matthew Barnaby Jr. of Youngstown would net a rebound goal from a re-directed shot off Trevor Kuntar's stick. The Phantoms would never look back.
Dalton Messina would score his first of the game and of the season at 11:17 of the second period to give the Phantoms a 2-1 lead from a cross-slot feed from Kuntar for the only goal in the period.
The Phantoms would extend their lead to 3-1 just 23 seconds into the third period by Messina for his second goal of the game.
Chase Brand would cut the lead to one at 10:38 on a backhand shot past Vinnie Purpura (19 saves). The game would be sealed on an empty net goal by Jack Malone.
These teams meet again tomorrow night at the Covelli Centre for a 7:05 puck drop for Hockey for The Homeless Night, with all proceeds helping feed the city of Youngstown. Broadcasts will be available HockeyTV and Western Reserve Radio.
