Flyers Win Marathon

June 24, 2006 - Golden Baseball League (GBL) News Release


Peanut Williams second walk-off homerun of the homestand gave the Flyers an 8-5 victory at Goodwin Field over the Chico Outlaws. Ryan Olson threw two shutout innings of relief to get his first victory.

The Flyers jumped ahead 2-0 in the 2nd inning after Joey Hendricks two RBI double. They made the lead 4-0 in the 6th after Peanut keyed a rally with an RBI double.

Todd Gelatka gave up just one hit threw six innings as the Flyers starter, but he ran into trouble in the 7th when Craig Kuzmick hit a two-run homerun.

Mike Mallory's league leading sixth homerun of the season cut the Flyers lead to one at 5-4 heading into the 9th.

The game was tied in the top of the 9th off Matt Lincoln when Jesse Kovacs drove in Lino Garcia.

George Huguet got the loss despite throwing five plus innings of relief.

Game two of the four game series is Saturday at 6:05.
