Flyers' Tryout Fills Roster

FULLERTON, CA: The Fullerton Flyers hosted a Local Player Tryout on Saturday, April 9th to determine who will go to spring training with the team in Yuma, AZ, this May. 77 players showed up and gave their all and after nearly eight hours, just five walked away with a contract in hand. These players are not officially on the Flyers' roster until their contracts are signed and returned.

Of those five players, three are pitchers, one is a hard-hitting infielder and the other is an equally hard-hitting outfielder.

On hand to evaluate the participants' talent and to sign players were Team Manager, Garry Templeton, Pitching Coach, Hal Dyer, Hitting Coach Brian Giles, and the Golden Baseball League's Director of Scouting Kash Beauchamp.

The five players with contracts in hand are:

Jeff Groeger, a pitcher from Diamond Bar, CA, who has played in the Cincinnati Reds organization after playing college ball at Santa Ana College and then at Sacramento State;

Pitcher Dayle Campbell, of Carson, CA, who also played in the minors for the Reds;

First Baseman Steve Ferreira, of Riverside, CA, who played at Cal Baptist University;

Pitcher Jared Edrosolan, of Santa Barbara, CA, who has played at Moorpark College and UC Santa Barbara;

Chris Wright, an outfielder from Valencia, CA, who most recently played at CSU Long Beach.

About the Flyers

The Flyers inaugural 2005 season begins one May 27th in Chico, CA, with all home games played at Goodwin Field on the campus of Cal State Fullerton. The Flyers' first home game will be Tuesday, June 14th at 7:05 PM.

About the Golden Baseball League

The Golden Baseball League, Presented by Safeway, is an independent professional baseball league operating under a single-entity ownership model, with the League owning all the individual teams. The Golden Baseball League charter cities include: Chico, CA; Fullerton, CA; Long Beach, CA; Mesa, AZ; San Diego, CA; Surprise, AZ and Yuma, AZ . A traveling team will be the league's eighth team. The season will consist of 90 games per team and will begin in late May 2005 and end in early September 2005. Each team will have a 24 player roster. The Golden Baseball League office is headquartered in Pleasanton, CA.

Players will be recruited from throughout the United States, including former major leaguers working their way back up through the minors, some of college baseball's finest players who missed being drafted, and recent cuts from major league baseball organizations spring training roster trimming. The Golden Baseball League plans on pursuing additional international player exchange agreements with other foreign leagues looking to develop their talent or acquire players.
