June 19, 2008 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release

All the Orange County Flyers do is score runs in large numbers.

The Flyers (16-5) rode a seven run second inning to a double digit victory Thursday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton, California as they swept the Yuma Scorpions(11-13) in a three game series.

Eight of the Flyers starters had multiple hits and every starter had at least one hit as Orange County put up twenty hits for the second consecutive night led by Pat Breen who continued his assault on the Scorpions going 3-4 with four RBI, including his eleventh homer of the season.

Flyers starter Bob Cramer went seven innings laboring over the 100 pitch mark as he picked up his first win of the season improving to 1-0.

Cramer struggled with his command in the second inning, beaning the first two batters of the inning before two consecutive groundouts gave Yuma an early lead.

The Flyers answered right back in the bottom of the inning as Brian Rios doubled to start things off before Jeff LaRue drove him in to even the score. Fernando Pacheco kept things going with an RBI double off the wall in left center to score LaRue and give the Flyers their first lead of the night. Then Buddy Morales and Travon Jackson singled back to back, with Jackson picking up an RBI. Orange County continued their assault on Roger Luque, as Mark Okano lined a shot towards Yuma second basemen Hector Bernal that was hit to hard to stop even carooning off of right fielder Maikel Jova making it possible for Travon Jackson to score all the way from first. Jermy Acey continued the onslaught cashing in Okano. Brian Rios added a double before Patrick Breen pushed across one more to make it a seven run inning.

The Scorpions were able to grab a run in the third as Rich Janeway singled before Yosvany Almario was able to add a single to plate Janeway.

But Orange County added two more runs in the bottom half as Buddy Morales drove in Pacheco with a double down the left field line before Mark Okano cashed Morales on a groundout before being called out himself on a close play at first.

The Flyers really got to Luque in the fourth when Brian Rios and Patrick Breen went back to back over the left field wall, extending the lead to nine.

Breen added two more RBI in the fifth with a single.

Orange County held to a ten run lead after putting up fourteen run in the first five innings.

Roger Luque was charged the loss (1-3) lasting just 3 innings surrendering 12 runs, 11 earned on 13 hits.

Flyers secondbasemen Dave Bacani did not play for the first time this season as he was attending his graduation.

The Flyers hit the road for a quick three game set in Long Beach.
