Orange County Flyers News Release

Peanut Williams got his 1st multi-home run game of the season and the Flyers offense torched Scorpion pitching in a 14-5 Flyers romp.

The Flyers offense pounded out 14 runs on 17 hits with 3 home runs as they broke loose, scoring 11 runs in the last 3 innings, and cruised to a 14-5 victory over the Yuma Scorpions on Friday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.

After see-sawing back and forth with the Scorpions through 5 innings, the Flyers took the lead and control of the game in the 6th inning. Down 5-3 at the beginning of the inning, P. Williams started the inning off with a bang as he hit his first home run of the game with a solo shot over the right field fence. With 1-out in the inning, the Flyers strung together 3 straight singles to load the bases. CF Garry Templeton II then beat out an attempted double play throw for a RBI fielder's choice that scored 2 runs and give the Flyers the lead 6-5.

Scorpions starting pitcher Roger Luque (5-5) was taken out at the start of the 8th inning and the Flyers pounced all over relievers Marc Sikora (0-0) and Ray Devaul (0-0) in both the 8th and 9th innings scoring a combined 8 runs in the 2 innings as P. Williams capped off the Flyers outburst with a 3-run home run to center for his 2nd home run of the game and his 10th of the season.

Mike Woolery (1-0) started the game for the Flyers and went 7 innings giving up 5 earned runs on 7 hits and only 1 strikeout to get his 1st win of the season.

The Flyers got steady production up and down the line-up. They were led by P. Williams, who went 3-4 with 5 RBI, 3 runs scored, and 2 home runs on the night. SS Bret Levier went 2-4 with 2 RBI, 4 runs scored, and added his 3rd home run of the season on a solo shot to left that tied the game at 3-3 in the 3rd inning.

The Flyers won their 2nd game in a row to get above .500 on the season. With a 31-30 overall record and 12-11 in the 2nd half, the Flyers are in 3rd place in the Golden Baseball League standings. They take on the Yuma Scorpions again tomorrow night at 6:05 at Goodwin Field.
