Flyers Lose But Still Remain in First Place Tie
August 26, 2006 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Orange County Flyers News Release
The Flyers had their chance to jump in front of Chico in the standings, but poor pitching and bad defense led to a 12-2 drubbing at the hands of the Armada at Blair Field Friday.
Long Beach got to Robert Mason right from the start with six hits and four runs in the 1st inning. It was a barrage of bloop hits and seeing-eye grounders, but it put the Flyers in an early hole.
The hole got even deeper when Long Beach scored three more runs in the 3rd inning. The big blow was a two-out two-RBI single by Adonis Harrison, which chased Mason from the game.
Todd Gelatka gave the Flyers innings in relief, but the bad defense hurt his cause.
Trevor Hall made an error in the middle of a two-run rally in the 5th inning. And Hector Zamora dropped a pop-up that led to three unearned runs in the 7th inning for Long Beach.
Hall did contribute at the plate by blasting a solo homerun to dead centerfield over the 400 foot sign.
Clemente Bonilla drove in Bret Levier for the Flyers other run.
Cole Cicatelli had four hits for Long Beach and drove in three runs.
Every Armada starter reached base in the game.
Justin Ramsey earned his eighth win by throwing a complete game.
The Flyers head for Yuma Saturday in an effort to pass Chico and face Reno in the Championship Series.
