Flyers Ime Udoka Named NBA D-League Player of Month

GREENVILLE, S.C., January 4 - Ime Udoka of the Fort Worth Flyers was named NBA Development League Player of the Month for games played in December.

Udoka helped lead the Flyers, currently tied for the league lead at 9-5, to a 6-3 record in December. In those games he averaged 37.0 minutes, 19.0 points, 7.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 1.8 steals. He converted 58-of-129 (.450) from the floor and 46-of-61 (.754) from the free throw line.

He recorded 28 points on two occasions (12/1 vs. Arkansas and 12/17 vs. Austin) and scored more than 21 points four times. Udoka also recorded a pair of double-doubles during the month.

The third overall pick in the 2005 NBA D-League Draft, Udoka currently ranks fourth in the league in scoring (19.6 ppg), seventh in assists (3.6 apg) and second in steals per game (2.1 spg). He is also averaging 7.6 rebounds.

Dec. 1 vs. Arkansas: Scored 28 points and had eight rebounds, five assists, three steals and two blocks.
Dec. 16 vs. Austin: Scored 22 points, grabbed six rebounds and had four assists. Dec. 17 vs. Austin: Scored 28 points, collected 11 rebounds, five assists and three steals.
Dec. 30 at Arkansas: Scored 21 points, had five rebounds and four assists.
Dec. 31 vs. Austin: Had second double-double of the month with 15 points, 12 rebounds and six assists.

Other nominees for the D-League December Player of the Month were Albuquerque's Joe Shipp, Arkansas Pape Sow, Austin's Marcus Fizer, Fayetteville's Erik Daniels, Florida's Bracey Wright, Roanoke's Anthony Grundy and Tulsa's John Lucas.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).

The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-five (35) players have been called up to the NBA on 51 separate occasions. Eleven (11) former D-League coaches, six athletic trainers, 14 referees and 30 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.

Designed to help grow the sport of basketball both domestically and internationally, the league also offers fun, family entertainment at affordable prices. The D-League is a source of on-court talent for the NBA's 30 teams and is a diverse human resources pool for the NBA and its teams by training employees in management, operations, public relations, sales and marketing positions.
