Orange County Flyers News Release

The Flyers got down early, giving up 3 runs in the 1st inning and went on to lose against the Armada...

Starting pitcher Mike Natale (3-4) and the Flyers gave up 3 1st inning runs and their comeback came up just a little bit short as they were defeated by the 1st place Long Beach Armada, 5-3, Tuesday night at Goodwin Field in Fullerton.

Natale got off to a rough start for the Flyers, hitting 2 Armada hitters and walking another to load the bases for ex-Flyer SS Gabe Mayorga, who went on to hit a bases-clearing RBI double off the wall in right-center and give the Armada a 3-0 after the 1st inning.

Natale would settle down after that as the Flyers closed the gap on the Armada. Flyers 2B Dave Bacani hit a 3-2 pitch just inside the left field foul pole for his 3rd home run of the season and to get the Flyers on the board in their half of the 1st inning.

Flyers DH Peanut Williams lined the 1st pitch of the 6th inning from Armada starter Jeff Heaverlo (7-5) over the left field fence for his team-leading 12th home run of the season and get the Flyers to within 1 run with the score 4-3 in favor of the Armada.

That was it for the Flyers scoring on the night, as they were shut-out the rest of the way as the Armada added an insurance run in the 9th to make the final score 5-3 Armada.

The loss drops the Flyers to 14-12 in the 2nd half of the season and it breaks their 4-game winning streak as they move on to match up with the Long Beach Armada tomorrow night at 7:05 at Blair Field.
