Flyers Drop Marathon

Chris Jakubauskas dominated the Armada into the 8th inning, but the Flyers bullpen could not hold a 2-1 lead and lost 3-2 in 12 innings.

Jakubauskas threw 7.2 innings and left with the tying run at third with two outs. Ryan Olson's first pitch in relief was wild and it scored Randall Shelley to tie the game at 2-2.

Jeff Groeger struck out five batters in relief, but picked up the loss.

After a leadoff single to Ryan Webb, Adonis Harrison sacrificed him to second. Shelley's infield single scored Webb from second base to win the game in the 12th.

The Flyers grounded into four double plays. Two of the twin killings came with runners at the corners and one out.

The Flyers got a leadoff double in the top of the 12th inning by Toshi Sasa, but Bret Levier popped out in an attempt at a sacrifice bunt. Sasa was stranded at second.

Peanut Williams was hitless in five at-bats including two double plays.

Fullerton left the bases loaded in the 3rd inning.

Bret Levier scored on a wild pitch in the 1st inning and Rich Pohle drove in Levier to give the Flyers a 2-1 lead in the 7th inning.

Jose Canseco tied the game at 1-1 when he scored on a sacrifice fly by Ryan Stephenson in the 2nd inning.

Canseco finished one for three with a walk and a hit by pitch.

This was the first game of the second half for both teams. The winner of the second half will play the Reno Silver Sox in the championship series.

Jeremy Sugarman will start game two of the four game series for the Flyers at Blair Field in Long Beach on Saturday at 6:05 pm.
