Flyers Drop Fourth Straight

Schaumburg, IL- The Schaumburg Flyers (13-23) three-run rally in the ninth was not enough to keep up with the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks (20-15) as the Flyers fell 8-4 in game one of the three game series.

The RedHawks went to work in the first, earning their first run off of two hits. While the Flyers remained scoreless through the first and second, the RedHawks struck again in the second inning. With another two hits, the Redhawks earned another run to put on the board, ending the inning leading 2-0.

The Flyers and the RedHawks both had scoreless third and forth innings. Flyers' lefty Billy Keppinger pitched back to back, three up three down innings.

In the top of the fifth, the Redhawks had three hits and four base runners to earn two more runs followed by a two run sixth. The Flyers scored one run in the bottom of the sixth off of two singles by Demetrius Heath and Sandy Almonte. Kyle Leon had a sacrifice fly to score Heath. The Flyers still trailed 6-1 at the bottom of the sixth.

Brandon Culp had a quick three batter inning in the seventh. Christian Snavely and Billy Malone both singled in the bottom of the inning but were left stranded.

Reliever Jim Popp made his second appearance for the Flyers in the eighth giving up one run off two hits and a hit batter making the score 7-1.

The RedHawks had thee hits off of the Flyers' Jim Morrison, scoring once. The Flyers started a three-run rally in the bottom of the ninth however when Leon doubled to right field. Pat O'Sullivan walked, and with two outs Billy Malone smacked a single, scoring Leon. Catcher David Hoffman walked and rookie Mike Rohde singled to score O'Sullivan and Malone. Heath was unable to keep the momentum going however, flying out to right field to end the inning. The Flyers fell 8-4 to the RedHawks.

Billy Keppinger took his fourth loss of the season while Mike Peschel earned the win. Flyers' Dan Grybash will take the mound Wednesday night, to look for a win over Fargo-Moorhead in game two of the series. Game time is 7:05 PM at Alexian Field.
