Schaumburg Flyers News Release
SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Flyers (23-38) came out after last night's blowout and answered back against the Joliet Jackhammers (32-28) in a 6-2 win at Alexian Field Monday night.
Â
The JackHammers jumped on the board first. Leadoff hitter Jonathan Wyatt smacked a double to right center and was driven home on a Jon Nelson single after advancing to third on a Kevin Rios groundout.
Â
Schaumburg answered back in the second with two runs of their own. Back to back singles by Josh Burrus and Joe Nowicki set the table for the Flyers. Burrus was driven in on a groundout by Dylan Parzyk and Nowicki on a Tommy Fitzgerald base hit into left center field.
Â
The Flyers would tack on another run in the fourth. Burrus led the inning off with a single, stole second and was driven home on an RBI single by Ruddy Yan.
Â
The JackHammers would cut into the Flyers lead in the top of the seventh. After the JackHammers loaded the bases with no outs, Wyatt was able to bring home Chris Colton
who led the inning off with a single, on a sacrifice fly to center, making the lead 3-2 Flyers. Brett Harker (4-7) got out of the jam with the lead intact and left with a chance for the win.
Â
The Flyers answered back in the bottom of the seventh, but they wouldn't settle for just one run. Nowicki led the inning off with a single, then after a Parzyk single he was brought home on Fitzgerald's second run scoring hit of the night. Two batters later, Travis Brown picked up a knock of his own, driving in both Parzyk and Fitzgerald, making the score 6-2 Flyers.
Â
Schaumburg wouldn't need any more as reliever Tom Lyons came in for starter Brett Harker in the eighth, and didn't allow a run. Harker picked up the win for the Flyers, tossing seven innings, allowing two runs on four hits while tying his season high with six strikeouts. Ross Stout (5-7) took the loss for the JackHammers, pitching 6.1 frames, striking out six, allowing six runs on nine hits.
Â
Newton extended his hit streak to nine straight in the win and Brown now has hit safely in six straight games and has reached base in 21 straight.
Â
The Flyers and JackHammers will play the series' rubber match tomorrow afternoon at Alexian Field. The game is scheduled for a 4:30 first pitch.
