Flowers Re-signs for 2009

Reading Express News Release
Reading Express GM/Head Coach Bernie Nowotarski announced today that he has signed last seasons' starting QB, Rob Flowers.
Flowers will be returning to the Express for his second season. "Rob took over the starting position in week four of last season. We were on the road against a 3-0 Erie squad. Down 19 points at halftime, Rob composed himself and the rest of his offense and pulled off a road victory with a 10 point win. Not bad for a first time starter with no indoor experience," said Nowotarski. "Rob made great improvements over the course of the season and I think sometimes we all forgot that he was truly a rookie and was going to make mistakes." He never hung his head or made excuses. He works hard on the field and off the field. Rob is an outstanding representative of what we stand for here with The Express as well as in Berks County and the AIFA.
Since the time Rob took over the offense in week four, he compiled the following stats. He threw for 2861 yards on 272 for 501 passes (54.3%) with 59 Touchdown passes and only 19 interceptions. Rob added his legs to our offense with an impressive 439 yards rushing along with a franchise record, 24 rushing touchdowns. Very nice stats, again for a guy who stepped in to a starting role in week four and had never been in an indoor game until then. We look forward to getting Rob back in camp and watching his growth process in the indoor game.
"Rob plays at 6' 225lbs, and is a graduate of Muhlenberg High School and Kutztown University and is currently working for the Reading School District, where he also is an Assistant Football Coach. Rob is another one of our local stand out athletes from Berks County, who we can all be proud of from his play on the field to his community commitment." commented Nowotarski.
