Florida still best among coaches

April 20, 2005 - arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Florida Firecats collected 204 of a possible 228 points to hold on to the No. 1 ranking in the weekly Coaches poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced earlier today. This is the fourth consecutive week the Firecats have been selected to be No.1.

For the third week in a row the Firecats total included 10 first-place votes. The Memphis held on to the No. 2 spot by receiving 189 points together with five first-place votes, up one from last week. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton once again retained hold of third place with 172 points and four first-place tallies. The only other team to receive a first-place mention this week was the Quad City Steamwheelers.

The Week 4 schedule features four matchups of Top 12 teams. No. 3 Wilkes-Barre/Scranton hosts No.4 Louisville on Friday at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday at 8:00 p.m. the No.6 Knights travel to The Resch Center to take on the No.12 Blizzard. No.10 Quad City plays at No.5 Oklahoma City on Saturday at 8:30 p.m. Also on Saturday night, the No.11 Talons head to San Diego to face-off with the No.8 Riptide at 10:00 p.m. All times Eastern.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 12 teams in the league by ranking them one through 12 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 12 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 12th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 12 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Tuesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 12 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
