Florida Remains Firmly On Top In Week 3 Coaches Poll

Published on April 11, 2007 under arenafootball2 (af2) News Release

CHICAGO - The Florida Firecats (2-0) received 463 points and 28 out of 30 first place votes to remain firmly in first place in the Week 3 Coaches Poll, the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today. The high-powered Firecats defeated the expansion Texas Copperheads on the road this past weekend, 54-13, to solidify their claim to the top spot for the third straight week.

The Quad City Steamwheelers (2-0, 402 points, 2 first place votes) moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 on the strength of their impressive, 60-45, road win at Spokane, who entered Week 2 as the No. 2-ranked team. The Shock's first loss since June 10, 2006 (10-game win streak, including playoffs) and first home loss since May 6, 2006 (8-game win streak) knocked the team down to No. 8 this week. Tulsa, which was idle in Week 2, improved one position to No. 3 overall. South Georgia (2-0, No. 4, 325 points) and Central Valley (1-0, No. 5, 303 points) both moved up three spots each and into the Top 5 with impressive Week 2 home victories. Bossier-Shreveport (No. 10), Rio Grande Valley (No. 11) and Amarillo (No. 12) have entered the Top 16 this week as well after wins in Week 2.

Each week during the season af2 coaches will vote for the Top 16 teams in the league by ranking them one through 16 on a ballot. Teams ranked first receive 16 points with the point value decreasing by one for each place below first, meaning a team ranked 16th would receive one point. Total points will determine the Top 16 list. In the event of a tie in total points, the team with the greater number of first-place votes will be ranked higher. The af2 Coaches Poll will be announced every Wednesday during the regular season. Coaches are not allowed to vote for their own team and the poll results have no bearing on postseason qualification.

The complete Top 16 is listed below. The number in parentheses indicates the number of first place votes the team received.
