Florida Flame News Release
FORT MYERS, Fla., March 28 - Florida Flame center Hiram Fuller and forward Kirk Haston were named to the 2004-05 All-NBDL First Team, according to an announcement today by the league office. Haston and Fuller join Roanoke's Matt Carroll and Cory Alexander (who are now playing with the Charlotte Bobcats) and NBDL leading scoring Isiah Victor also from Roanoke to round out the top five vote getters.
Florida guard Carl English was an All-NBDL Honorable Mention selection to give the Flame three on the All-NBDL list.
"We are glad that Hiram, Kirk, and Carl were named to the All-NBDL teams," said Head Coach Dennis Johnson. "All three of them played well for us throughout the entire season, and I am glad to see that the other coaches around the league recognized their abilities and talents. All three have contributed to this team in more ways than one, and now their season long contributions have been rewarded."
Forward Kirk Haston earned First Team honors averaging 16.9 ppg, 8.0 rpg, and 1.6 ppg for the Flame. He has scored 13 points or more in 36 of 43 games and has 11 double-doubles this season. Haston is currently ranked fourth league-wide in scoring average and fourth in rebounds per game. Haston scored a season and career high 30 points against Asheville on March 18, 2005.
Flame Center Hiram Fuller earned First Team honors averaging 13.9 ppg, 8.5 rpg, and 1.8 bpg. He is currently ranked eleventh league-wide in scoring average and third in rebounds per game. Fuller went on a tear through the months of January and February where he achieved 14 double-doubles (including eight straight) over a 19 game period. Fuller scored a season high 28 points in a home victory over Roanoke on March 5, 2005.
Guard Carl English earned Honorable Mention honors after averaging 14.3 ppg, 4.1 rpg, and 3.2 apg. English ranks first in the league in 3-point field goal percentage, connecting on 18 of 39 attempts for 46.2%. He also ranks ninth in the league in scoring average.
All three players will return to action this week as the Flame close out their home schedule with three games against the Fayetteville Patriots. In attendance for Tuesday night's game will be NBA Commissioner David Stern, Friday's game will feature Scooby Doo live in attendance, and Saturday's game will feature the high-flying dunks of the Miami Heat Extreme Team during halftime. All three games are scheduled for 7:30 p.m. tip-offs at Germain Arena.
Hiram Fuller Quotes:
"It is a blessing to be given this type of recognition; I could not have done it without my fellow players on the court next to me. I would also like to thank Coach Johnson for giving me the chance; he is a legend in this game and I learned a lot while playing underneath him."
Kirk Haston Quotes:
"I would like to thank my coaches for giving me the opportunity to play this season with the Flame and my teammates on for giving me the opportunity to produce on the court."
Carl English Quotes:
"I am honored and privileged to be named to the All-NBDL team. It was a great experience playing for this team and our fans in Fort Myers. But nothing is accomplished without the help and support of my teammates and coaches, and I have them to thank as well."
