Florida Flame News Release
Fort Myers, Fla., December 6, 2004 â The Florida Flame have acquired former Charleston forward / center Hiram Fuller (pronounced Hi-rum) from the National Basketball Development League player pool, according to an announcement today by NBDL director of basketball operations Chris Alpert and Flame Head Coach Dennis Johnson. The Flame also waived center John Flippen.
"In getting a player from last year's squad, we are acquiring a more aggressive rebounder," said Head Coach Dennis Johnson." "Hiram will share time as a forward and center, and hopefully give us something we have been lacking in the rebounding department."
Fuller, a member of the 2003-04 Charleston Lowgators, played in 40 games averaging 7.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 23.6 minutes per game last season. Hiram scored a season high 19 points against Huntsville on December 28, 2003 and recorded single-game highs of 15 rebounds (vs. Fayetteville â Dec 20.) and six blocks (three times) during contests last season with the Lowgators.
Fuller was one of the 17 GATORADE Call-ups when he signed a 10-day contract with the Atlanta Hawks February 27 of last season. He played in four games for the Hawks, averaging 10.8 minutes, 2.0 points and 2.8 rebounds. He was also a member of the 2003 Indiana Pacers training camp.
During his senior season at Fresno State, Hiram led the team in scoring and was ranked second in rebounding. He averaged 10.0 ppg and 7.4 rpg in 23.8 minutes a contest. He recorded eight double-doubles, including a 15 point, 16 rebound effort at San Jose State. He also blocked a single-game school record eight shots against the Spartans.
"We are looking forward to having Hiram back with us, and we plan on having him available for Saturday's game at Huntsville."
