Florida Firecats News Release
Estero, FL- The Florida Firecats have moved back into third place in the American Conference in this week's playoff standings the arenafootball2 (af2) league office announced today.
After a hard fought 41-35 win at division rival Daytona Beach, the Firecats (9-4) are also back in first place in the South Division. Florida has the same record as the South Georgia Wildcats, but the Firecats hold the tiebreaker because they beat South Georgia in two of the three teams' match-ups this season.
With a win Saturday night at Boise, the Firecats would clinch a playoff spot for the seventh straight year. The only year the âCats missed the playoffs was 2001, the team's first in the af2. The Firecats can also clinch a playoff spot if Manchester loses to Mahoning Valley on Saturday.
Eight teams in each conference qualify for the af2 playoffs, with games being played at the highest seed. The conference winners will square off in the ArenaCup, the championship game of af2, which will be held at the venue of the participating team with the best overall record. The Firecats hosted the ArenaCup in 2004, the year the team won its only af2 championship.
