Flint Slips Past Mallards 3-2
Moline, Ill. (October 30, 2009) - The host Quad City Mallards, proud International Hockey League (IHL) affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers, tonight erased a 2-0 deficit only to fall to the Flint Generals 3-2 after Flint defenseman Burke Henry broke a 2-2 tie early in the third period.
Henry jumped into the slot to bury a Greg Bullock centering pass at the 2:06mark of the third.
The Mallards pulled themselves out of an early two-goal hole thanks in large part to the efforts of Brandon Marino and Joel Gasper, both of whom produced a goal and an assist. The Mallards got on the scoreboard for the first time while shorthanded when Gasper took a Marino drop pass and snapped the puck home from the left wing circle. After 5:31 of the second period rookie Marino charged through the left circle to even the score with his first professional goal.
The Mallards found themselves in need of a rally after the Generals struck twice early in the first period. Tyler Willis's goal from the side of the net gave Flint a 1-0 lead two and a half minutes into the game. At 6:46 of the first Lucas Schott doubled the lead by finishing off a 2-on-1 rush.
Mallards goaltender Kyle Jones (28 saves) gave the Flock the chance battle from behind by stopping all but one of the shots he faced the rest of the way and producing a handful of top shelf stops.
The Mallards are next in action Wednesday night in Bloomington against the PrairieThunder. Quad City's next home game is next Saturday night, November 7, against the Muskegon Lumberjacks. The first 1,000 fans ages 12-and-under through the doors for that game will receive a free Mallards mini-stick courtesy of Reynolds Ford.
Tickets for the November 7 game and all remaining regular season Mallards home games are available at the i wireless Center box office, Ticketmaster outlets and www.ticketmaster.com or through Ticketmaster charge-by-phone toll free at 1-800-745-3000.
