
Flint Generals Add Eight To Pre-Season Roster

FLINT, MI- The Flint Generals of the IHL added to their training camp roster with eight signings, including three rookies.
Mike Thomson is a rookie defenseman from La Habra, California. Thomson played for the SUNY- Plattsburgh State Cardinals of the NCAA from the 2005-06 season through 2007-08. During his time with the Cardinals Thomson played 74 games, scoring 26 goals, 32 assists and 30 PIMs. Mike spent most of the 2008-09 season playing for EPHL team Brooklyn Aces, before playing two games with fellow EPHL team Hudson Valley Bears.
Bill Horton, a physical rookie defenseman from Utica, NY, is no stranger to the Flint Generals. His father Bill Horton Sr. played for the team from 1969-1972. He played with the Joliette L'Action of the QJAHL during the 2005-06 season, competing in the Royal Bank Cup Canadian Junior National Championship Tournament. In 2006-07, Horton suited up with the Thunder Bay Bulldogs in the Superior Junior Hockey League where in 19 games he had one goal and three assists for four points and 103 penalty minutes. During the 2007-08 season, Bill played with Division III program the University of Minnesota-Crookston. Last season Horton attended Training Camp with the Generals but was injured. He later played a few games with the Brooklyn Aces of the EPHL.
Forward Jamie Schaafsma has spent his professional career playing in European Leagues. His career began playing for three seasons in Holland, two seasons with the Geleen Smoke Eaters and playing for the Dutch National Team in three World Championships. His time in Holland was followed by two seasons in Italy with a season playing for 2.Bundesliga (2.GBun) in between. Last season, his second stint in Italy, Schaafsma won the Italian Championship with Bolzano.
Jozef Wagenhoffer is a big defenseman from Slovakia. He began his three years playing with the Bratislava Slovan team in the 2004-05 season. He played 56 games for Bratislava, scoring 1 goal and getting 30 PIMs. He also spent part of the 2006-07 season playing for HK Ruzinov 99 Bratislava in the Slovakia2 League. In 2007-08 Jozef played 16 games with HC Berounsti Medvedi of the Czech2 League followed by 10 games with HC Mlada Boleslav. Wagenhoffer spent the 2008-09 season competing with HC Vrchlabi, getting 1 goal, 2 assists and 44 PIMs in 25 games. He signed with Flint in mid- September.
John Mori, forward from Connecticut, played for the Avon Old Farms of the NEPSHIA during the 2004-05 season captaining his team to its second straight Division I Championship. He was also a member of
Team New England Select, a team that competed at USA Hockey National Festivals. Beginning in the 2005-06 season John began his collegiate career for Providence College, playing for the Friars through part of the 2008-09 season. Mori finished out the 08-09 season with the Port Huron IceHawks of the International Hockey League.
John Ronan is a forward from South Boston, MA. He attended The University of Maine from the 2001-02 school year through 2004-05. During his time at the Univ. of Maine he competed with the team for two National Championships, in 2002 and again in 2004, just falling short both years. Following his time at Univ. of Maine he spent part of the 2004-05 season with the Alaska Aces before heading to the Florida Everblades of the ECHL. He began the 2006-07 season with the Rocky Mountain Rage competing in nine games, finishing the season with the Austin Ice Bats. He returned to the Ice Bats the following season scoring 19 goals and 23 assists and 46 PIMs in 56 games. John spent the 2008-09 season playing in the SPHL with the Huntsville Havoc.
Nate Ward is a forward is a former captain for the Northern Michigan University Wildcats. He spent last season competing in Manchester, England. He is very skilled and according to Head Coach Jason Muzzatti and can "play every position except goalie."
Maple Grove, MN native Nick Pernula is a skilled rookie forward. He spent five seasons playing in the USHL (from 2000-01 through part of 2004-05). He spent the next four years playing NCAA hockey, playing the 04-05 season with Robert Morris University followed by three seasons with St. Thomas College. During his time with St. Thomas, Pernula scored 41 goals, 60 assists, and 80 penalty minutes in 71 games. Last season he played with the Richmond Renegades of the SPHL and Bakersfield Condors of the ECHL.
The Generals training camp which will be held at Polar Palace in Lapeer, kicks off October 5th with the players hitting the ice for the first time October 6th.
