January 16, 2004 - NBA G League (G League)
Huntsville Flight News Release

Huntsville, Ala. (Jan. 16) –Roanoke Dazzle guard Marque Perry, who scored seven of the Dazzle's final nine points, sank a two-pointer as the buzzer went off. The officials waved off the basket, giving the Huntsville Flight a 91-89 win over Roanoke in tonight's National Basketball Development League play. This was the Flight's first win in January and first win since December 28.

The Flight (11-7) snapped a four-game losing streak and a three-game home losing streak and is now in second place in the NBDL, a game-and-a-half behind Charleston.

Tied at 82 with a minute-and-a-half to play, Ken Johnson sank a 13-foot turnaround jumper to give the Flight a two-point lead. The Flight then connected on five of six free throws to maintain the lead before Roanoke's Perry drove the lane and lobbed up a desperation shot to tie the game at 89 with less than five seconds remaining. On the in-bounds play, Perry was called for a tripping foul, sending Mateen Cleaves to the line to shoot two. Cleaves converted both shots, giving the Flight a two-point lead.

The Dazzle had a 10-point lead at the end of the first quarter. The Flight then set a 2004 team record, holding Roanoke to six points in the second quarter. Despite grabbing seven offensive rebounds and seven defensive rebounds in the period, the Dazzle was 1-for-21 from the field and 4-for-6 from the charity stripe. The Flight took a five-point lead (39-34) into the half.

Perry led the Dazzle with 18 points, scoring 11 in the final period. He also posted six rebounds, six assists, and two steals. Mikki Moore, who fouled out with 26 seconds remaining, scored 15 points, grabbed six boards and blocked four shots.

Phil Ricci led the Flight with 21 points, grabbed seven rebounds, nabbed four steals, and blocked three shots. Cleaves came off the bench to contribute 15 points, six boards, four assists, and five steals. Rodney Bias, who returned to the lineup after a 20-day rehab from knee surgery, led the team with 12 rebounds in 16 minutes of play.

The Flight and the Dazzle return to play on Saturday at the Von Braun Center. Tip off is at 7:00 PM.
