St. Louis Flight News Release

(St. Louis, MO) -- The expansion St. Louis Flight basketball team is heading to the playoffs. American Basketball Association Commissioner Joe Newman announced today the final power rankings and playoff pairings for the upcoming ABA post season. The Flight earned the 16th and final playoff spot and will travel to Salt Lake City Monday to face the top seeded Utah Snowbears.

Utah (25-1) has been virtually unbeatable this season. Their only loss came to second seeded Arkansas in Little Rock. A loss they avenged two days later against the Rimrockers. St. Louis coach Cliff Levingston said, "I welcome the challenge of playing the league's best team. When you get into the playoffs anything can happen, and we hope to make some noise in our first season in the ABA."

An unfortunate side effect is that the ABA season has been cut short by several days and the Flight's final two games have been cancelled. General Manager Larry Striklin said, "I'm excited we have earned the 16th seed in the playoffs and I look forward to trying to bring a championship home to our faithful fans. While our remaining games have been cancelled, we want our loyal and growing fan base to know that we will award an equal number of tickets to those lost this year for games next year. We hope our great fans will continue to support us in our drive for a championship."

The ABA playoffs will proceed in a single elimination format with the finals being conducted March 14 and 15th. St. Louis is one of five Central Division teams to qualify for the playoffs. The other four are Arkansas, the Texas Tycoons, Kansas City Knights and Kentucky Colonels. Kansas City opens the playoffs with a home contest Friday night against the Orange County Buzz.

St. Louis fans can listen to Monday's game on the Snowbears' website at www.utahsnowbears.net beginning at 5:00 p.m. St. Louis time. Former Miami Heat forward Ike Austin is the Snowbears ‘player-coach'. Utah has an explosive offense, having been held under 100 points on five times in 26 games.
