Huntsville Flight News Release

GREENVILLE, S.C. (Mar. 7, 2003) – Lonnie Harrell scored nine of his team-high 19 points in the fourth quarter, including seven straight in a late Huntsville spurt, which helped the Flight hold off Greenville for a 89-74 NBDL victory here Friday night at the BI-LO Center.

The Flight (19-24) began the three-game, four-day trip with the win, snapping a five-game road losing streak in the process. Huntsville returns to action Saturday in a 6 p.m. contest against Roanoke. That game will be shown on a tape-delayed basis on ESPN 2 Monday at 2 pm and Tuesday at 11 am on NBA TV.

It looked as if the Flight would coast to the victory as they headed into the fourth quarter with a 22-point advantage at 75-53. The Groove, which rallied from a 22-point deficit to beat the Flight at home in January, tried to repeat the feat that happened over two months ago.

Behind 11 points from Bill Thomas, the Groove scored the first 14 points of the final period to cut the margin to eight at 75-67. The Groove then pared the score to 77-70 after a Kevin Lyde free throw, but the seven-point margin was as close as they could get down the stretch.

Harrell then took over, sandwiching a pair of dunks around a 3-pointer to score seven straight with A.J. Guyton adding a 3-pointer of his own to cap a 10-0 run and push the margin back up to 17 with less than two minutes to play at 87-70.

The Flight, which got a season-high 18 points from Ike Nwankwo, 16 from A.J. Guyton and 13 from Jermaine Walker, hit 53 percent of their shots (35-of-66) in the game. The Flight was also strong from behind the arc, converted 8-of-12 3-pointers for 66.7 percent.

Thomas finished the night with a game-high 24 points for the Groove (19-24) while Donald Hand added 12 for the home squad.
