Flight Falls For First Time This Season

NORTH CHARLESTON, S.C., Nov. 23 – Sedric Webber and Corey Benjamin combined for 50 points along with helping hold off a late Huntsville Flight rally to lead North Charleston to an 88-80 victory here Saturday night at the North Charleston Coliseum.

Webber scored a game-high 27 points, while Benjamin added 23 to pace the Lowgators (4-1) and give the Flight (3-1) their first defeat of the season in the process. The Lowgators, who moved into first place in the NBDL standings by a half game, avenged a 91-76 loss to the Flight just two days before in Huntsville.

The Flight trailed 67-60 early in the final quarter, before Demetric Shaw powered a 10-2 rally for the visitors, scoring the final five points of the run, to give them a 70-69 advantage with less than six minutes to play. The lead was the first for Huntsville since early in the first quarter.

The teams then traded buckets seven times and were tied at 78 with 3:05 to play before Benjamin powered a 7-0 North Charleston run by scoring five of seven points to seal the win. Lowgator Damone Brown chipped in 13 points for and Tierre Brown added 12 for the contest.

Shaw led six Flight players in double figures with 15 points. Mike Wilks added 14 points for Huntsville, while Brandon Williams scored 13, Lonnie Harrell and Eric Chenowith each contributed 11 and Bakari Hendrix notched 10.

Despite hitting 25-of-32 shots from the free throw line for 78.1 percent, the Flight hit just 37.5 percent of their shots from the floor (27-of-72). The Lowgators converted 51.5 percent of their shots, making 35-of-68 shots.

North Charleston took the early advantage as they led 25-18 after the opening quarter. Benjamin made all five of his shots and added a free throw for 11 points in the quarter, while Huntsville hit just 4-of-14 shots over the first 10 minutes. The Lowgators also led by 10 at the break 45-35 and 65-60 after three quarters.

The Flight, which has played three of their first four games on the road, continue its schedule away from the Von Braun Center with a Wednesday night game at the Columbus Riverdragons. Tipoff is 7 p.m. EST.
