Flight defeats league leader

Huntsville, Ala. (Jan. 31) – The Huntsville Flight snapped a three game losing streak to the Charleston Lowgators, winning tonight's National Basketball Development League contest 92-84 at the Von Braun Center.

The Flight improved to 13-10 and the Lowgators fell to 16-7. Huntsville is now in second place in the NBDL, three games behind Charleston.

Trailing by three at the 5:42 mark of the third quarter, the Flight used a 5-1 spurt to take a one-point lead (58-57) into the fourth. Huntsville continued to capitalize on the momentum and pulled away to an eight-point lead with just under six minutes remaining in the game. Charleston responded with two three-pointers, cutting the Flight led to three with 3:42 remaining. It was as close as the Lowgators would get.

With the game tied at 11 with six minutes remaining in the first quarter, the Lowgators went on a 12-6 run to take a six-point lead. Rodney Bias and Erick Barkley combined for six points to pull the Flight within two. Ime Udoke sank a 12 footer to give Charleston a four-point edge at the end of the first quarter.

Huntsville outscored Charleston 6-to-1 at the start of the second quarter to take the lead at the 9:12 mark. The Flight extended its lead by as much as eight before the Lowgators answered with a 10-4 run to finish the half and pull within two points.

Alpha Bangura led Charleston with 24 points. Chuck Edison tossed in 12 points and five assists. Jason Miskiri and Udoka each added 10 points.

Barkley came off the bench to lead the Flight with 30 points on 9-of-13 shooting, including 10-of-11 from the foul line. Barkley scored 18 of his 30 points in the fourth quarter. He also tossed in four assists and two steals. Bias came off the bench to post his first double-double of the season with 14 points and 13 rebounds.

The Flight enjoys a six-day rest before resuming play against the Columbus Riverdragons on Feb. 7. Charleston travels to Roanoke to take on the third place Dazzle on Feb. 3.
