Flash Welcome League-Leading Reign for Final Time on Wednesday

ELMA, N.Y. ( Tuesday, July 1, 2014 ) - On Wednesday night, the Western New York Flash will take on the first-place Seattle Reign FC for the second time in less than two weeks, and for the final time this season. It's the final game of the Flash's current four-game homestand, and a win could vault the Flash into sole possession of third place in the NWSL Standings.

Western New York (6-7-2, 20 points) is coming off a 2-1 victory over the last-place Boston Breakers at Sahlen's Stadium on Friday.
After a scoreless first half, Carli Lloyd opened the scoring in the 59th minute, with a header off a Brittany Taylor free kick. This is the fourth time in the Flash's past five games a goal has been scored off of a set piece situation.
The Breakers equalized after Maddy Evans sent a through-ball to rookie Nkem Ezurike, who was able to send the ball past goalkeeper Lydia Williams for her second goal of the season.
Lloyd struck again for the Flash in the 83rd minute, scoring what would prove to be the game winner after a give-and-go with Vicky Losada. With the brace, Lloyd now leads the team in goals scored with six. The assist is the league-leading sixth on the season for Losada, who has had an assist in three-straight games.
Seattle is still undefeated on the season with a record of 11-0-3 (36 points), and most recently posted the first scoreless draw of any team this season, at home against Sky Blue FC. The Reign had 12 shots in the game, but couldn't find a way past goalkeeper Brittany Cameron, marking the first game this season the Reign have not scored a goal.
With a win on Wednesday the Flash would hand the Reign its first loss of the season, and even the season series with the Reign at 1-1-1. Depending on other results, the Flash could move into sole possession of third place in the standings.

After Wednesday, the Flash will head to BBVA Compass Stadium for the second time this season to face the Houston Dash for the final time this year. The Flash is still looking for its first-ever win against the expansion club, after losing 2-1 in both of their previous meetings.
