Sky Blue FC returns home from a two-game road trip to the West Coast. On June 25, SBFC defeated Portland 2-1 for the club's first win since May 24. The New Jersey squad struck first with a goal by midfielder Katy Freels in the 8th minute of play. Freels chipped a long-range floater over Thorns keeper Nadine Angerer into the upper right corner of the net for her fifth tally of the season.
Portland retaliated in the 54th minute when forward Christine Sinclair scored the equalizer. However, in the 63rd minute defender Lindsi Cutshall sent a header past Angerer to take back the lead. Despite several more scoring opportunities for both squads, neither team was able to convert again.
To close out the road trip, Sky Blue FC played unbeaten Seattle Reign FC to a 0-0 stalemate on June 28. The New Jersey club is the first team this season to hold Seattle scoreless through 90 minutes of play.
SBFC goalkeeper Brittany Cameron received the start in both matches. Cameron's aggressive style of play was a key factor in thwarting numerous attacks, and she made spectacular saves when needed. Cameron combined for 11 saves in two games and picked up her second clean sheet of the season against Seattle.
The Houston Dash will look to regroup after dropping its last two matches. On June 14, Houston lost 2-1 in heartbreaking fashion to FC Kansas City. It appeared as if the Dash was going to come away with a point in its fourth straight match, but a late-game header by FCKC forward Frances Silva snapped the run.
Most recently, the Dash lost to the Washington Spirit 1-0 on June 28. Houston failed to create enough opportunities in the match, only taking two shots on goal. Spirit forward Jodie Taylor scored the lone tally in the 61st minute to give Washington its first win in four games.
Entering Wednesday's match, the Houston Dash lead the season series 1-0-0. The last time the two teams faced off was on June 8 at Yurcak Field. Houston won 3-0 as forward Tiffany McCarty led the way with a two-goal effort. Houston hopes to snap a two-game losing streak while Sky Blue FC will strive to keep its unbeaten streak alive.
