Western New York Flash News Release
Elma, N.Y. - The Western New York Flash announced today the club has released midfielder Kim Yokers from her contract with the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) due to medical reasons.
"Kim is a great player, who brought a veteran experience, strong work ethic and leadership to our club on a daily basis," Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines said. "She was a pleasure to work with and we appreciate the commitment she made to the Flash organization. We were very fortunate for the opportunity to have her with us this season and wish her the very best."
A third round pick in the 2013 NWSL Supplemental Draft, Yokers appeared in three games for the Flash, making two starts and playing 182 minutes this season. As a result of being released, the Flash will retain Yokers' NWSL rights and she will not be available via waivers.
"I am very disappointed that I am unable to play the remainder of this season with the Flash," said Yokers. "I am thankful for the time that I've had with the team and appreciate my teammates and the club's support in this matter. I will be rooting them on through the season and looking forward to 2014."
Before joining the Flash, Yokers had a goal and an assist in 11 appearances as a member of the New York Fury of the WPSL Elite in 2012. Prior to that, Yokers recorded one goal in 14 games and won the 2010 WPS championship while playing for FC Gold Pride from 2009-10.
A graduate of the University of California at Berkeley, Yokers played five seasons with the California Storm of the WPSL from 2004-2008, including finishing the regular season in first place and reaching the national final in 2005.
