Flash Announces 25-Player Preseason Roster

Rochester (March 18, 2013) - The Western New York Flash announced today the club's preseason roster for the inaugural season of the 2013 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL). WNY Flash opened preseason on March 11 with 28 players will join the 3-time consecutive champion team, WNY Flash.

The NWSL allocation process began with the WNY Flash acquiring U.S. Women's National Team (USWNT) players and Olympic gold-medalists Abby Wambach and Carli Lloyd.. In addition, the Flash received Canadian Women's National Team players Bryaanna McCarthy and Jodi Ann Robinson and Mexican Women's National Team players Veronica Perez and Pamela Tajonar.

Five free agents were signed by the WNY Flash, including returning players; McCall Zerboni and Adriana Mart� - n Santamar� - a. In addition, the club added three newcomers in Brittany Taylor, Samantha Kerr, and Sarah Huffman to the roster.

In the NWSL College Draft, Western New York Adrianna Franch of Oklahoma State with the sixth pick in the first round. The Flash went on to draft Amy Barczuk of Colorado and Vicki DiMartino of Boston College.

The NWSL Supplemental Draft was on February 7 with the Flash selected Estelle Johnson, Angela Salem, Kim Yokers, Val Henderson, and Ashley Grove.

In addition, the Flash have invited a numbr of trialists to preseason including former Flash players Katherine Reynolds and Alex Sahlen. . (I would not mention players will be added until they are signed. If you want to mention them I would state that they are in camp as non-roster invitees or trialists.)

The club also has Melinda Mercado (Oklahoma State), Brigit Reder (Ball State), Ashley Walsh (Colgate), and Madison VanDine (University of Rhode Island) in camp.

The WNY Flash preseason games kicked off at Sahlen Sports Park in Elma, NY last Friday when the club defeated Canisius College, 3-0. The preseason schedule continues with games on March 23 against Penn State and on March 30 against Ohio State. The WNY Flash will take on NCAA Champions, University of North Carolina (UNC) on April 7 at Sahlen's Stadium in Rochester, NY with a 12 p.m. kickoff.
