
Flame Open 2005-06 Training Camp

FORT MYERS, Fla., November 7 - The Florida Flame, presented by Century 21 Sunbelt Realty, opened training camp for the 2005-06 NBA Developmental League season on Sunday, November 6 and will conduct their annual Media Day/Read To Achieve Event this Wednesday, November 9 at Alico Arena on the campus of Florida Gulf Coast University. The players' first Read To Achieve event will take place during Media Day with students from local elementary schools.
Wednesday's Media Day/Read To Achieve events will begin at 10:30 a.m. as the players will split up into groups for Reading Timeouts with the elementary students. The players will also distribute books and talk about the value of reading. The team will then hold practice from 11:30 a.m.-1:15 p.m. followed by Media Day activities at 1:30 p.m.. All players will be available for media interviews throughout the Media Day activities that will conclude at 2:20 p.m.
Eighteen players are currently participating in the Flame's training camp. Five players have NBA experience (Andre Barrett, Theron Smith, Hiram Fuller, Bracey Wright and Dwayne Jones), while seven participated in 2005 NBA training camps (Barrett-Milwaukee, Smith-Denver, Fuller-Washington, Wright-Minnesota, Jones-Minnesota, Ricky Shields-New Jersey, Kyle Bailey-San Antonio Spurs).
The Flame's 2005 D-League Draft selections include point guard and NBA veteran Andre Barrett (1st round, #1 overall), shooting guard Ricky Shields (2nd round), point guard Kyle Bailey (3rd round), small forward Jonathan Moore (4th round), center George Leach (5th round), point guard E.J. Rowland (6th round), guard/forward Romel Beck (7th round), center Anwar Ferguson (8th round), small forward Josh Gross (9th round), and shooting guard Torrian Jones (10th round).
The 10 players selected by Florida join the team's two allocated players (Theron Smith and Chris Brooks), one player picked from local tryouts (FGCU's Roman Brown), and three returners from last season (Hiram Fuller, Kendall Dartez, and Sean Finn).
D-League rosters will be cut to 12 players on Thursday, November 10, with opening day rosters set on Thursday, November 17.
The Flame will face the Arkansas RimRockers on Saturday, November 12 in an NBA Development League preseason game at the CSN Fieldhouse on the campus of the Community School of Naples. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m. The event is an opportunity for Flame fans to get their first glimpse of the 2005-06 squad led by Head Coach Jeff Malone.

Tickets will also be on sale at the Community School of Naples Athletics box office on the day of the game. General admission tickets are $6 while courtside reserved seats are $10. Seating is limited.
