
Flame Guard Smush Parker Named Player of Month

GREENVILLE, S.C., April 14 â Florida Flame guard Smush Parker has been named the NBA's National Basketball Development League player of the month for combined games in March and April 2005. The NBDL regular season ended on April 9.
The first Flame player to win the award, Parker played in 15 games (14 starts) during March and April, averaging 39.0 minutes, 20.7 points, 9.7 assists and 5.6 rebounds per game. He also connected on 120-of-237 field goal attempts (.506) and 14-of-25 three-point field goal attempts (.560).
Parker became the first player in the four-year history of the NBDL to record a triple-double, doing it twice in 14 days, both times on the road. He scored 31 points, had 11 rebounds and 13 assists at Columbus on March 26 and followed that with 30 points, 10 boards and 10 assists at Asheville on April 8.
For the season, the 6-4, 180, Fordham ('04) product played in 23 games (19 starts), averaging 36.2 minutes, 19.1 points, 9.1 assists, 4.7 rebounds and 3.0 steals per game for the Flame. Parker began the season with the Detroit Pistons before signing with the NBDL. He also signed a pair of 10-day contracts with the Phoenix Suns after coming to Florida. He played in 16 NBA games this season (1 start), averaging 9.0 minutes and 3.0 points.
