
Flame announces open tryout dates

FORT MYERS, Fla., Aug. 31, 2005 --The Florida Flame, presented by Century 21 Sunbelt Realty, will hold open player tryouts on October 22-23 at the Community School of Naples. The open player tryouts provide local talent with the opportunity to earn a spot for the Flame's 2005-06 training camp, which begins November 5 in Fort Myers.
The tryout will be directed by new Flame head coach Jeff Malone and assisted by Director of Basketball Operations, Terry Thimlar. Both days will consist of skills stations, shoot arounds and games. The first 125 players to complete all pre-registration forms, including a $125 registration fee, will be eligible. Payments must be made in the form of cash, cashier's check or money order only. No personal checks will be accepted. Please make payments payable to the Florida Flame.
All pre-registration forms can be obtained by logging onto the club's official website www.floridaflame.com or by stopping by the Flame's office located in Gateway off Daniels Parkway. Application forms and payment are due by Thursday, October 20, 2005 at 5:00 p.m. and must be sent to the Florida Flame office located at 13130 Westlinks Terrace, Suite 7, Fort Myers, FL 33913.
The open player tryouts will feature one session per day and both days are open to the public. The Saturday, October 22 session will run from 11 a.m.-2 p.m.. Flame coaches will then select 20 players from Saturday's session to advance to the Sunday, October 23 session that will run from 11 a.m.-1 p.m..
Lodging for tryout participants traveling to Southwest Florida will be available at the Best Western Naples Plaza, located at 6400 Dudley Drive, Naples, FL 34105. The Community School of Naples is located at 13275 Livingston Road, Naples, FL 34109. From I-75, take the Pine Ridge Road exit (Exit 107) and go west. Take a right onto Livingston Road. At the first stoplight take a left onto Osceola and the school is located on the left-hand side.

The NBA Development League includes the Albuquerque Thunderbirds (N.M.), Arkansas RimRockers (Little Rock), Austin Toros (Texas), Fayetteville Patriots (N.C.), Florida Flame (Ft. Myers), Fort Worth Flyers (Texas), Roanoke Dazzle (Va.) and Tulsa 66ers (Okla.).
The D-League offers players the opportunity to develop their talent in a highly competitive atmosphere under the NBA's umbrella. Thirty-four (34) players have been called up to the NBA on 50 separate occasions. Ten (10) former D-League coaches, five athletic trainers, 11 referees and 29 front office executives have also been called up since the start of the league's inaugural season in November 2001.
