Texas Tornado News Release
North American Hockey League announced its rosters today for the NAHL Top Prospects event to be held in Troy, Mich. from February 20-22. Nick Neville, Jack Prince, Taylor Herndon, and Jordan Greenberg were named to the South Division Roster while Justin Greenberg will also be in Troy to compete as part of the NAHL 18U select team.
"We're very proud of our five players who have been selected to next month's NAHL Top Prospects event," Tornado head coach and general manager Tony Curtale said. "They're all very deserving, dedicated, and talented enough to play hockey at the Division-I level. We're certainly excited for them to have the opportunity to get the exposure that will be available to them in Troy."
Neville, a defenseman from Bloomfield Hills, Mich., is in his first season in the NAHL. After playing his midget hockey with the Little Caesars Hockey Club in Detroit, he came to Frisco and has scored 3 goals and 19 assists in 41 games this season. His 22 points lead all Tornado defenseman in 2011-2012. Born in 1993, Neville was also eligible for the 18U squad, but was chosen to represent the South Division.
Prince is another product of Little Caesars, winning a Midget Major national championship with the organization before coming to the Tornado. Now in his third season with the team, Prince is the captain and leading scorer, with 24 goals and 24 assists on the season. He has also scored four goals in a game twice this season, once on November 5 against New Mexico and again on December 30 against Odessa.
Herndon has scored 13 goals and 11 assists in 2011-2012. He was the team's leading goal-scorer on November 5, but suffered a wrist injury and missed the next two months before returning in early January. In his first game back on January 5, the Oklahoma City, Okla. native picked up the Tornado's lone goal against Corpus Christi.
Jordan Greenberg is in his first season as a member of the Tornado after spending last season with the Austin Bruins. Hailing from Plano, the elder Greenberg has come back home and, alongside Justin, slid right onto the top line with Prince. Jordan missed five games in January with a hand injury and has 10 goals on the year while his 33 assists are tops on the team and second overall in the NAHL.
17-year-old Justin Greenberg scored his first career goal on September 15 against Alexandria and currently sits seventh on the team with 24 points, most among Tornado rookies. However, he has been sidelined since December 28 with an ankle injury.
Six teams will take part in the Top Prospects event, with the rosters to be comprised of 20 players from each of the NAHL's five divisions. In addition, 20 of the league's best 18-year-old and under players will make up the sixth team. Each team will play once a day during the three-day event, with all games scheduled to take place at the Troy Sports Center.
