Charlotte Stone Crabs News Release
PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. - The Florida State League announced the 2010 Post-Season All-Star Team today, and the Charlotte Stone Crabs have five representatives listed: designated hitter Stephen Vogt, starting pitchers Joe Cruz and Matt Moore, reliever Zach Quate and manager Jim Morrison.
The Stone Crabs led all FSL teams with five All-Star selections after also leading the Mid-Season All-Star selections with nine.
Designated hitter Vogt gets the nod after leading the league with a .333 batting average (117-for-351) in 101 games. He also led the circuit with a .487 slugging percentage while collecting 27 doubles and seven home runs with 43 RBIs on the season.
Starting pitchers Cruz and Moore both dominated FSL opponents in the second half of the year and picked up two of the four starting pitcher spots on the All-Star Team. Cruz leads the league with 12 wins and ranks second with a 2.98 ERA (45er/136ip). Moore was named the FSL Pitcher of the Week four times during the 2010 season and leads the entire Minor Leagues with 197 strikeouts on the year while posting a solid 3.50 ERA (54er/138.2ip).
Reliever Quate ranks third in the league with 23 saves and has given up just 10 earned runs in 67 1/3 innings pitched on the year. He has also racked up 88 strikeouts while holding opponents to a .191 batting average.
Morrison gets Manager of the Year honors after guiding the Stone Crabs to a first half division title and a guaranteed spot in the upcoming playoffs while posting the third best overall record in the league. He was recently tagged as the Best Managerial Prospect in the FSL by Baseball America and was named the Rays Player Development Man of the Year in 2009.
The Stone Crabs have three remaining home games in the regular season before the first home playoff game on September 8. Tickets range from just $6-11 for all home games and are available three ways: visiting the Charlotte Sports Park box office, StoneCrabsBaseball.com, or calling 941-206-HITS.
