Five-goal period leads to 8-5 win

Moline, IL – The Quad City Mallards tied a United Hockey League season-high with five second-period goals in an 8-5 win over the Port Huron Beacons, Sunday at The MARK of the Quad Cities. The scoring outburst turned a 1-0 deficit at the start of the period to a 5-3 lead at second intermission. The Mallards stretched it to 7-3 early in the third to seal the victory.

The Mallards are 4-0-1 in their last five home games. They play 23 of their final 35 games at The MARK.

C Jeff Williams (20, 21) and RW Hugo Proulx (4, 5) each scored twice for the Mallards. Proulx stands at 199 career regular season goals with Quad City, one short of becoming the second Mallard ever to score 200. Williams extended his point-scoring streak to six games (7g, 1a, 8pts).

C Martin Hlinka set a team season-high with four assists. He has a nine-game home point-scoring streak. In his last nine games overall, he has scored 14 points (4g, 10a). Rookie F Lanny Gare had a goal and two assists, extending his point-scoring streak to six games (4g, 5a, 9pts). D Matt Libby earned an assist to stretch his point-scoring streak to five games (2g, 5a, 7pts, +8 plus/minus).

D Andy Fermoyle, F Drew Otten, and C Jon Francisco each added two assists, while D's Tom Menicci and Dylan Mills each had a goal, and RW Jason Sessa scored his team-high 26th of the season. Gare and Williams scored shorthanded, giving Quad City four shorthanded goals in the last two games.

The Mallards will stretch their current homestand to four games with a Wednesday 7:00 p.m. contest against the Kalamazoo Wings and a Friday 7:00 p.m. matchup with the Rockford IceHogs.
